Out on Varanus Island, wind load, light spill and pedestrian-compliance standards were all key considerations — met with a high-power Solar Bollard Gen 2 in Warm White (3,000 K) with a reflector, on a custom base that fixes straight to the existing structure. Off-grid, stand-alone, and minimal light waste.

HIGHLUX joined the build at the planning stage, engineering custom brackets to fix the bollards to the architecturally-specified poles along the walkway out to the whale-watching platform — PP5-compliant light, rated for Region D cyclonic conditions, with fittings colour-matched to the architecture.

Trees are tough on solar — so these bollards were “turned down” to a low 120 mA to suit the light filtering through the canopy, delivering off-grid light exactly where it’s needed: on the stairs and crossings of a tree-lined median strip, with no disruption to Kew’s established streetscape.

With a limited budget, the bollards were spaced further apart along the path to prioritise the key areas — and even at 12–15 m apart, the Solar Bollard is a generous waypoint light that guides you across the school grounds after dark.

Out front of the Goldfields Exhibition Museum, a single low-power bollard gives the “prospector’s rock” its night-time fanfare — an 80 mA model chosen to run reliably in the building’s heavy shade on just four hours of winter sun.

The April 2022 release of The Australian Mining Review celebrates Oz Minerals' Carrapateena mine in SA for its Switch to Solar using Australian Made Solar Bollards. These solar bollards were specified by HIGHLUX for the Carrapateena site in 2019 with support from local wholesaler L&H Port Augusta. HIGHLUX is proud to have the original Solar Bollard, made in Australia by Solar Bollard Lighting, as an outstanding performer in its solar range.
